The team of Lou Lowy and Diane Ward along with guitarist Frank Vila and drummer Jeff Fritz were a tight rock 'n' roll band of the classic style. Catchy tunes with solid hooks and tight performances, they were a solid performing unit.
Bootleg was never part of the “hip” scene like some of the more underground bands of the time. But they had a lot of heart and Diane's vocals could rock hard or croon a heartwrencing ballad with ease. Yet they maintained a sheen of distance, as if the songs being sung were about someone else, somewhere else.
Later, after Jeff departed the group, they got a new drummer, a new name and a darker, more personal attitude as The Wait.
