After somehow escaping with their lives, and most of their sanity, intact, Kim Scorch (bass)and Jamie Lynx (drums) and lead guitarist Kathi Gibson departed the crazy train of Ruby Cadilac and formed Whig Party with guitarist Chris Lombardo and vocalist Lori Dietrich.
The self-produced cassette album seems a bit more schizophrenic than psychedelic with heavy rockers such as Cold Shot running up against the sunny positivity of Today is a Wonderful Life. The thing that saves this dichotomy from being off-putting is the talent and sincereity brought to both types of music. In fact we were surprised to discover how effectively the Whigs Jefferson Airplane-tinged harmonies worked together on Roads Not Taken and the other psychedelic selections. Meanwhile the heavy tunes are in-your-face and ballsy, showing that the ex-cadilacs had learned how to do it heavy, but with more melody (and hopefully fewer drunken brawls).
