I can't explain to you how these EAT records took hold of me. It took a couple listens for me to realize how goddamned catchy they are. But now I go back to them so often, my family knows most of the songs by osmosis.
There is no easy way to describe the EAT sound. Funny and smart, old-school punk rock, yet slightly psychedelic. The brothers O'Brien are both gifted writers and singers, but all four members contribute songs. They developed their own style through 1979, then sped everything up as fast as they could go, yet still somehow retained the tunefulness.
These are the facts as we know them. The Eat's Scattered Wahoo Action cassette was released by Jeterboy records at the end of 1983, give or take a few months. It was recorded between 1980-82. Aside from bootlegs, and a band-approved vinyl re-issue by Dutch label Wicked Witch in 1996, it has been out of print for almost a quarter-century. Scattered Wahoo Action is a classic, and we're proud to offer proof to you. The sound quality is spectacular, from the best available source.

And we've thrown in the usual goodies. We have all the songs from the original release, the live version of "Communist Radio" that was included on the re-issue, and the one existing unreleased track from those sessions, the super-crunchy "Can't Get There From Here", AND the alternate version of "I Led Two Lives" that only exists as part of "The Land That Time Forgot" compilation from 1982, . plus 2 more unreleased live tracks from 1979.
"Nixon's Binoculars" seemed to point the way forward, proto-funk/punk with a dash of saxophone. Unfortunately, about the time Wahoo came out, the band went on an extended hiatus that lasted until the sessions for the "Hialeah" ep began in 1988. "We just got tired of doing it." Kenny Lindahl says cryptically (and diplomatically,) deepening the mystery...
So get EATEN already, fer chrissakes!
