Jon Cecka, formerly of Roy and the Hayheads (no we don't have anything by them, sorry) pulled together this ironically-named quartet with sisters Laine Sheekey and Cathy Sheekey and, still drumming for the Essentials and still in high school, Pete Moss.
Although reflecting the punk ethos of DIY, the sound featured a “no distortion” philosophy that brings out a 1950's guitar-instrumental esthetic, with fun, sincere and sometimes touching songwriting. This set is one of our favorites.
The cover versions of “Somebody Super Like You” from the Brian DePalma film Phantom of the Paradise and “The Twitch” from a classic episode of The Flintstones demonstrate the pop culture compass that helped direct the band.
Also included are two songs featuring Jon Cecka with The Essentials.
