Not really a radio show, and not quite a full hour, this collection nonetheless shows how the SoFla scene was formed in the early eighties.
Charlie Pickett, patron saint of disparate rockers and cowboy junkies alike, inaugurated Open Books and Records OPEN Label with the single “Feelin'” b/w the Velvets' “White Light/White Heat,” followed by the rockin' “If This is Love…” single. Soon after, an appearance on Open Records Land That Time Forgot Compilation (along side The Eat, Larry Joe Miller and more) was followed by his own full length OPEN album Live At The Button.
Meanwhile, on other labels, ZCars and the Wrap produced wonderful Pub Rock and New Wave singles, respectively. And although released in 1991, the Psychic Fair single featured so many local heroes (Pickett, Moss, L.J. Miller, Michael Chatham, Rusty Hammond, John Salton...) it just begged for inclusion.
Oh, and most of these records, and most other vinyl sourced on this site, was originally purchased at Open Books and Records, Progresso Plaza, Ft. Lauderdale Fla. That's why.
